Q&A

How to calibrate a laptop battery?

Battery Calibration resets the operating system's percentage readings, preventing sudden unexpected shutdowns (e.g., dying at 20%) and fixing inaccurate battery-life estimates.

You should generally only calibrate your laptop's battery when you notice erratic percentage jumps, or immediately after installing a brand-new battery.

How to Calibrate Your Battery
Performing this process is straightforward and requires no special software.

1. Charge: Plug your laptop in and charge it to 100%. Leave it plugged in for at least two additional hours to ensure the cells are entirely full.
2. Discharge: Unplug the laptop and use it normally until the battery drains and the computer shuts down due to low power.
3. Rest: Leave the laptop powered off for at least 5 hours.
4. Recharge: Plug it back in and charge it uninterrupted to 100%.
